The Pittsburgh Steelers are a professional American football team based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They are currently a member of the North Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League. Founded in 1933, the Steelers are the oldest franchise in the AFC. Pittsburgh has won more Super Bowl titles (6), won more AFC Championship Games (7) and hosted more conference championship games (10) than any other AFC or NFC team. They have played in more AFC conference championship games than any other team and are tied with the Dallas Cowboys with 14 championship game appearances in either the NFC or AFC contests. With the exception of the 1960’s which featured only three Super Bowls, the Steelers have appeared in at least one Super Bowl in every decade of the contest. The Steelers are the current National Football League champions, having won Super Bowl XLIII on February 1, 2009.

The fifth-oldest franchise in the NFL, the Steelers jerseys were founded as the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 8, 1933, by Art Rooney.[1] The ownership of the Steelers jerseys has remained within the Rooney family since its founding.[2] The current owner is Art’s son, Dan Rooney, who has given much control of the franchise to his son Art Rooney II.

The team enjoys a large, widespread fanbase nicknamed Steeler Nation[3] and currently play their home games in Heinz Field on Pittsburgh’s North Side, which also hosts the University of Pittsburgh Panthers. Built in 2001, the stadium replaced Three Rivers Stadium which hosted the Steelers jerseys for 31 seasons. Prior to Three Rivers, the Steelers jerseys had played their games in Pitt Stadium and Forbes Field.

The Pittsburgh Steelers jerseys of the NFL first took to the field as the Pittsburgh Pirates on September 20, 1933, losing 23–2 to the New York Giants.[4] It was under the ownership of Gregory Taylor from Lewis Center, OH. Through the 1930s, the Pirates never finished higher than second place in their division, or with a record better than 0.500 (1936).[5] Pittsburgh did make history in 1938 by signing Byron White, a future Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, to what was at the time the biggest contract in NFL history,[6] but he played only one year with the Pirates before signing with the Detroit Lions.[7] Prior to the 1940 season, the Pirates renamed themselves the Steelers.

During World War II, the Steelers jerseys experienced player shortages. They twice merged with other NFL franchises to field a team. During the 1943 season, they merged with the Philadelphia Eagles forming the “Phil-Pitt Eagles” and were known as the “Steagles.” This team went 5–4–1. In 1944, they merged with the Chicago Cardinals and were known as Card-Pitt (or, mockingly, as the “Carpets”).[6] This team finished 0–10, marking the only winless team in franchise history.[8]

The Steelers jerseys made the playoffs for the first time in 1947, tying for first place in the division at 8–4 with the Philadelphia Eagles. This forced a tie-breaking playoff game at Forbes Field, which the Steelers jerseys lost 21–0.[9] That would be Pittsburgh’s only playoff game for 25 years, though the Steelers jerseys did qualify for a “Playoff Bowl” in 1963 as the second-best team in their conference, though not considered an official playoff.[10]

In 1970, the year they moved into Three Rivers Stadium and the year of the AFL-NFL merger, the Pittsburgh Steelers jerseys were one of three old-guard NFL teams to switch to the newly-formed American Football Conference (the others being the Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Colts), in order to equalize the number of teams in the two conferences of the newly-merged league.

Penguins jerseys

The New Jersey Devils are a professional ice hockey team based in Newark, New Jersey. They are members of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The club was founded in Kansas City, Missouri as the Kansas City Scouts in 1974, moved to Denver, Colorado as the Colorado Rockies after only two seasons, and then settled in New Jersey in 1982.

Evisu jeans

Evisu or Evisu Genes is a Japanese designer clothing company that specializes in producing premium denim wear through traditional, labor-intensive methods.

The brand was formally founded in 1991 in Osaka, Japan, by Hidehiko Yamane  although the research and planning necessary to reproduce the perfect pair of vintage jeans had been going on for several years prior to this. Yamane was trained as a tailor but his love for vintage jeans and his disappointment with the mass-produced modern versions led him firstly to the vintage clothing export business and then, revolutionarily, to start putting together the elements required to reproduce vintage-style jeans. This needed the gathering together of various bits of machinery, none of which had been produced for the last 40 years, which are required to make authentic vintage jeans.

The initial production line allowed about 14 pairs of jeans a day to be produced and each of them was lovingly hand-painted with the now famous seagull logo (Kamome) by Yamane himself. Evisu (also written as Evis or Ebisu) is the name of the Japanese folk god of money who is usually portrayed with a fish and a fishing rod. His name was selected for the new venture as money and fishing are two of Yamane’s five favorite things (the others being beer, women and golf – in no particular order).

Although initially Evisu was more a labour of love than a commercial venture, Evisu jeans captured the imagination of the detail-obsessed Japanese fashion crowd, spurring a revival of interest in vintage denim which has now spread across the world. In the early 90’s Yamane introduced a tailoring line, followed by fishing and golf lines. In 1999, he introduced a ladies fashion line called Evisu Donna to complete the development of Evisu as a full-fashion range going far beyond a jeans brand. Evisu now has 65 shops in Japan.

In March, 2006, the company and Yamane was reported to Tokyo District Public Prosecutor’s Office along with another firm on suspicion of tax evasion. Yamane and the two firms stand accused of concealing more than 500 million yen of income as well as evading some 160 million yen in taxes over three years.

In 2009, Evisu went through a relaunch and Scott Morrison, the co-founder of both Paper Denim & Cloth and Earnest Sewn, was added to the Evisu team as CEO and creative Director.

2008-2009 Nhl Season Preview

The time of year has come that makes every nhl jerseysfan giddy inside like a little child waiting for Santa Claus; the beginning of a new season. A time where team hats and jerseys will be worn everyday at work, home and arena’s around North America. Ron Wilson will have a tough time keeping the Maple Leafs out of the leagues basement while the same goes for Scott Gordon’s and his Isles. Toronto will be awful, especially with Sundin’s future up in the air and to make it worse, there is nothing Wilson can do. Team Canada specialist Craig Hartsburg now controls the Senators who are expected to do better than last season’s 94 points.

In the Southeast Division, John Anderson and Peter DeBoer will make their debuts behind the benches of non-playoff teams in 07-08. Anderson’s Thrashers should be just as bad as DeBoer’s Panthers while Barry Melrose makes a coaching return with the Bolts. Melrose comes into a good “win-win” situation although they should do better after spending over 250 million dollars in salaries during the offseason.

Los Angeles hired Terry Murray to run the operations of a rebuilding Kings team. The key word is “rebuilding”; they are young and expectations are low going into this season as they should be. Of the new coaches, only rookie coach Todd Mclellan and Tony Granato are behind legitamte playoff teams.

Going in the season, there are a few coaches in the hot seat. Lindy Ruff has been with the Sabres since 1997 and if he cannot make the playoffs this season, his reign may be over. The same goes for Barry Trotz of Nashville. With the Predators only going downhill from here, it may be time for a new voice in the locker-room after the coming failed season.

There were a bundle of movements in recent months, none more important than Marian Hossa. He will absolutely strengthen the Red Wings roster and already make them Cup favorites. Let’s take a second to see how scary Detroit’s power play looks on paper. They got either Hossa, Zetterberg, Datsyuk on the point with the other two on each side plus Lidstrom and Holmstrom to cause havoc in front of the net.

New teams with new faces are exciting but just not as exciting as those top players that keep even non-hockey fans watching.
Another season is coming and the questions are endless going into the new season but only one truly matters; who will win the Stanley Cup? Only time will tell.

The Rise And Fall Of Throwback Jerseys

In the sports fashion world, retro is, or at least have been, king. Who was the king-maker? Potential candidates would include Big Boi, and Dre. But it wasn’t until Puff Daddy wore throwbacks at the 2002 American Music Awards the craze really took off.

Of course that wasn’t the first anyone had heard of throwbacks, celebrities such as Spike Lee were wearing Mitchell & Ness throwbacks back in 1990. However it was the late 1990s, before anyone really noticed. Early favorites were Hank Aaron’s 1974 Atlanta Braves jersey and the Houston Astros’ 1988 rainbow design.

The reigning king maker however is none of the men we’ve mentioned. The King Maker was Peter Capolino, owner of Mitchell & Ness. As a company, Mitchell & Ness has been around since 1904. They haven’t always been in the business of throwbacks .

M&N began it’s life as a sports manufacturer, primarily golf clubs. By 1925, however, the company got out of the golf business and ventured into athletic uniforms for the first time. But it also went into ski equipment, and a host of other directions. It’s lack of direction cost them dearly and in the early 1980s it almost went bankrupt. They had diversified into too many areas.

Scaling back his business, Capolino moved into a smaller storefront. In the storeroom of the new location he found what would go on to change the focus of his company, and his own life for good. Stored away in the new shop, and left behind by it’s previous tennants were crates of old magazines, many with pictures of old sports uniforms.

About this time, a change was happening in the NBA and in hip hop culture. For years the league was dominated by a guy named Michael, who had a very mainstream, good-guy image. As his notable star began to fall, another generation of athletes took center stage. Not mainstream, and intent on leaving their own mark on the game, this generation was typified by bad boy Allan Iverson. He of tatooes, attitude, and a hip hop fashion trend called retro.The NBA was quick to capitolize on this new fad, in an attempt to breath some life into a league that had suffered from a work stoppage in 1998.
The fad peaked in 2003, and throughout 2004 sales began to steadily decline. By that point though, Mitchell and Ness had been joined in the arena by every manufacturer of sports gear on the planet. Nike, Adidas, Reebok, and a host of illegal M&N knock-offs, appeared on the scene.

For the true fan however, a vintage jersey will always be a collectors item, irrespective of whether it is in fashion or not.
